Specialized post-surgical rehabilitation using manual therapy, dry needling, and progressive exercise to resolve muscle tightness, restore range of motion, and optimize your surgical outcome.
Post-surgical muscle tightness is a common complication following orthopedic, abdominal, or other surgical procedures. It results from the body's natural healing response — inflammation, scar tissue formation, and protective muscle guarding — which can lead to persistent stiffness, reduced range of motion, and pain if not properly addressed.
After surgery, the tissues around the surgical site often develop adhesions (bands of scar tissue that bind tissues together), fibrosis, and muscle guarding patterns that restrict normal movement. Without targeted intervention, these restrictions can become chronic and significantly limit your recovery and functional outcomes.
At NeoLife Physical Therapy, our post-surgical rehabilitation programs are designed to optimize your recovery by breaking down adhesions, restoring normal tissue mobility, retraining movement patterns, and progressively rebuilding strength — all within the parameters set by your surgeon.
Your NeoLife therapist will evaluate your surgical site, surrounding tissue mobility, range of motion, strength, and movement patterns — all within the context of your specific surgical procedure and your surgeon's protocols. We communicate directly with your surgical team to ensure coordinated care.
Treatment includes scar tissue mobilization and myofascial release, joint mobilization to restore range of motion, functional dry needling to release trigger points and muscle guarding, progressive strengthening within surgeon-approved parameters, neuromuscular re-education and movement retraining, and modalities for pain and swelling management as needed.
Dry needling is particularly effective for post-surgical muscle tightness because it can release deep muscle guarding and trigger points that develop as a protective response to surgery. When combined with manual therapy and progressive exercise, patients consistently achieve better range of motion and functional outcomes.
Targeted trigger point therapy to relieve pain, restore mobility, and accelerate healing.
